Student life meets the art scene

The “Urban Art Festival Styria” and STUWO are working together.

In June 2019, the STUWO StudentCity Graz was the first venue for the “Future Icons Festival”, the international festival for street art, graffiti and young innovative art.

The dormitory manager Christa Lorenz had the idea to transform the 7-storey building of the StudentCity Graz into a “work of art”. Since then, numerous works of art and installations have been created in the interior and exterior of the StudentCity as well as in the underground car park. An interactive work will also be created here this year. The biggest eye-catcher is the “MUR” mural by MOTS on the facade.

Lots of color, cool beats, interactions and media art

This year’s “Urban Art Festival Styria”, which will take place from June 7th to 11th in the city of Graz and in Eastern Styria, promises a colorful program and a glimpse into the future. Due to the corona pandemic, the festival had to be postponed. But don’t worry! The current safety regulations, which include outdoor events and plenty of space, ensure a carefree event.

International artists from various genres such as street art, music, design, media art, communication and crossover will work together with young artists for a week and will give a live performance at the big final event on Friday, June 11, 2021, starting at 6 p.m.

This year, too, all the senses will be delighted

The visitors of the Urban Art Festival can look forward to an exciting and multifaceted program. With street art, graffiti, jams, exhibitions, a huge “Public Art Gallery”, workshops, talks, sound and light installations and live concerts by international artists and collectives, the initiators of the festival want to make “Urban Art” accessible to a broad audience and display current developments in the scene.

The festival center, the “STUWO – StudentCity Graz” itself will become an art platform this year and will be transformed into a huge open-air gallery and an art laboratory, where artists, scientists and musicians from different European countries will work together. Additionally the building will be painted and sound – and light installations will appear.
